Can a girl who recently got her first period get an IUD implant?

It is not recommended to start with IUDs for management of heavy menstrual bleeding unless there are contraindications to use of estrogen containing COCs or progestin- only therapy like Depo Provera or Aygestin. It is a bit extreme to me to consider an IUD up front, but it is part of the conversation at the beginning if other less invasive therapies do not work.
